OK, so lets throw out some fodder for discussion. Here we are, out of the WS. What do we need for 2007 to ensure a WS bid?
Me thinks its pitching. As far as Trachsel is concerned, dump him. Either make Heilman a starter or pick up another (NO ZITO !) I love Pedro but he is getting older - middle relief?
Im just thinking out loud here.

Hi, why dont you like Zito? i know hes not overpowering or anything but he doesnt get hurt which is important, he is still solid, hes pretty young, and he should be even better in the NL reunited with rick peterson. i do believe he will get paid a lot more than he deserves but as a fan that type of thing doesnt really bother me, i want to see the best team that omar can put together.
I have read rumors that we will go after Mulder. Im not an advocate of that because i feel he peaked a while ago and now hes just a big injured question mark.
I too, would love to see our boy Heilman get an oppurtunity to start. he was drafted to be a starter and hes paid his dues. If he sucks so be it but at least lets get the guy a chance.

I'd like to the Mets sign Zito. They need a young frontline starter (who doesn't?). There isn't much on the free agent market SPs wise. I'd try to package Heilman/Milledge and another minor leaguer (not Gomez) for Dontrelle. I'm not a Milledge fan and Heilman seems to have more value to other teams than the Mets.

i agree, i love heilman and if we dont want to start him then its mutually beneficial for him to go. its a bit of a waste to keep him in the role he is in now, especially if the mets can get a more useful player in his place by packaging him w/ someone like milledge.
i am not too hot on milledge either right now but how can all those scouts be wrong? maybe he just needs another chance. again, he may be more useful to another team if we are going to go after someone like soriano anyway. i would take dontrelle for these two in less than a heartbeat
